GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) License
These radios utilize GMRS channels. GMRS is the same frequencies used by the family radio service (FRS) which is what toy radios and store bought Motorola’s use. However, with GMRS the power is much higher and have the ability to connect to repeater stations to extend range. For this reason, they do require a license to transmit. The license however is a simple process which costs $35, lasts for 10 years, and covers your entire family.
Step 1

You will receive an email within 2 days with your assigned call sign.
Once you have recieved your callsign, it will be valid for 10 years for everyone in your family. Because your entire family will have the same call sign, you may want to add an individual designator. It is common practice to just use the provided call sign followed by a first name. We have opted to use the first letter of our names phonetically. You may create whatever system you lie as these designators are not official and will only be used to talk with one another.
